Lee A From 11/2021 workshop with Heather Winslow. I changed the sequence in the above front cloth. 3/1,1/3 block weave and must have 8 shafts min. to achieve both in the tie-up. Use a table loom when trying different designs (floor looms require changing shafts) No thank you, no crawling around for me. What fun!!

Beth D Thunder Snow photos. Finished piece is mounted on canvas stretchers and measures 12w x 24 h 10/2 mercerized cotton at 36 epi. Four Color Double Weave on 24 shafts. warp is white and a medium, lively blue weft is off white and hummingbird…a medium, dull purple. The idea for the show was to come up with a piece that would show the colors of winter, either cold and stormy, or warm and cozy. I chose my 4 colors carefully, because in 4 color double weave it’s the mix of your chosen colors that is apparent. I think it depicts the cold and story, fairly well. I like the roundish shapes that remind us of snowballs, or frozen hail. The color choices remind me of the winter sky and landscape.

Sandy N Twill gamp from Heather Winslow workshop. Two towels that I did with leftover warp I learned to love my new 16 shaft Ashford. I used 8/2 unmercerized cotton for warp and weft set at 24 epi for a total of 423 ends plus 2 ends for floating selvedges. We had to use contrasting colors. One side of the gamp was done in color and weave. The gamp measures 15/34 inches wide by 46 inches long. I did the twill patterns assigned by Heather. We had optional weaves to test after the gamp. There were seven. Broken 1/3 twill, background windows 1/3, 1/3 & basket, 1/3 &2/2, 3/1 & 1/3 straight draw, double weave, and honeycomb. The towels were 15/34 wide by 27 inches and 31 inches long.

Carol P Fiber: Warp: 3/10 sport-weight wool (Mountain Color’s Weavers Wool worsted “Lady Slipper”). Weft: Pattern 1: 3/10 wool, used doubled (Jagger Spun heathered burgundy); Pattern 2: small loop boucle 80% mohair/20%silk (Fonti “Shangai”, navy); Tabby: 18/2 50% wool/50% silk (Jagger Spun Zephyr “Claret”) Structure/Sett: Summer Winter, treadled as singles ; 10 epi, 3 yard warp, 48″ width Caption: (example: Weaver A. Huck lace towel, cotton & Linen. Sett 24epi for housewarming gift): Carol Perenchio. Summer & Winter blanket. Wool warp, mohair/silk boucle & wool pattern blocks as alternating bands; Zephyr tabby. Sett 10 epi. Comments: Pattern 1 wool was used doubled (thrown 2 shots as one pick), so used nylon embroidery thread as floating selvedges to catch doubled picks. Pattern 2 boucle did not pucker or draw in. Weft floats on back not visible until off loom – repaired prior to wet finish (delicate wash cycle 4 min in warm water & spun, air-dried flat). Finished dimensions: length 68″ (not including 6″ plied fringe); width 39″. Shrinkage: length 7.5%; width 2.5%

Carol PItem: Crackle Scarf Fiber: Warp: 20/2 silk (Vijay Fibers “Staccato” cinnamon red) & nylon embroidery thread “Light Gold” (incidental ends).Weft: pattern 1: 20/2 silk (peacock blue); pattern 2: 20/2 silk (emerald green); tabby: 60/2 silk (orange red) Structure/Sett: Polychrome crackle. 27 epi. Width in reed 7-1/4 ” Colorway order: blue/green/tabby. (replaced emerald green with magenta as borders for 2 treadling blocks, about 5 inches from each end). Repeated block treadling eight times to create small blocks, with random block sequence changes. Stayed with same pattern color order throughout (except for first and last magenta “borders”) so it wouldn’t look too busy. Threaded and sleyed gold metallic nylon incidentals at each block change. Sleyed together with a silk end, and hung weighted over back beam.

Nanette M I feel like the elephant who labored and brought forth a mouse. Analogous colors were a cinch, I thought. Reds/purples are my favorite, had my 8″ Structo warped in red and threaded to a miniature overshot pattern. Well, have you ever looked at the selection of colors in floss that would be suitable? I got a bunch, that I really liked, weren’t too close to one another, red purple to use for tabbies. playing with whole pattern repeats, partial repeats in various colors, single colors with different tabbies, etc. I learned more than I thought I would. 1) Just because colors are analogous, it doesn’t mean they will play nicely together. 2) Changing tabby doesn’t make as much difference as you might expect when they are similar in value. 3) Above all: VALUE WILL TRUMP HUE. I already knew this, but was surprised at how close in value most of my chosen colors were, making for very subdued patterns.

Sandy N. I used Analogous variegated 8/2 Tercel for the warp. The weft for the fuchia was 8/2 bamboo. I had some warp left over so I tried a blue rayon for the weft. The scarf pattern was from Sixty Scarves for 60 Years. It is called Diamond back twill. It is set at 30 epi. I reversed the treadling for the scarf which was an accidental moment and liked it better. The small sample was woven as written. Not much shrinkage at all.

Pat B variegated spruce sparkle sock yarn (75% SW Merino/20% Nylon/5% Stellina) and dyed avocado green sock yarns (75% SW Merino/25% Nylon) are from Kelly Montag of NorthwoodsFibers.com in Menomonee Falls WI. Also in the bag was a card from Karen Anderson at Kaleidoscopefibers.com in Cambridge WI. I added teal blue 8/2 tencel for stability and color and wove with the variegated 8/2 tencel on the shuttle. The yarn pictured with the shuttle is all I have left of the 2 skeins. The scarf drew in about 1″ in the width and 3″ in length before washing and another 4″ in length after gentle washing in a garment bag. It was steam pressed with a pressing cloth while still slightly damp. It is very soft

Karen York Spring Table Runner Fiber: 100% 8/4 cotton (Yes, carpet warp!) Structure/Sett: Plain weave, straight draw, 15 epi, 15 dent reed, 4 yard warp This is weaving kindergarten, or weaving for dummies. My desire was to weave some spring after a long, long, hard winter. I checked my ever-ready stash of carpet warp, and picked out the brightest, boldest colors I could find. I made the runner long enough to fit on both my antique tables. The kitchen table is 48″ x 60.” My dining room table is 48″ x 48.” It does what it was designed for: it certainly lights up a room. Comments: After warping my loom, I experimented with weft colors. My plan was to use a light tan, but I found that just dulled the warp down. I tried the colors in the warp, but eventually settled for a natural. That seemed to bring up the colors and not get buried in the strong colors of the warp. I wove a 2″ hem of 8/2 unmercerized cotton in natural, then 72″ of the 8/4 unmercerized cotton in natural, then finished with the 8/2. When hand hemmed, the runner measured 72″ x 19. After wet finishing, it measured 60% x 17.”
